Alpine Skis

The Different Types of Snow Skis in Utah
During the ancient times, snow skiing is a form of transportation. Modern snow skiing is no longer a means to get to point B from point A, but a form of recreational activity for tourists in resorts during winter. It is now a sport that many people enjoying partaking in and watching.
Alpine Also known as regular downhill skiing, alpine skiing is the most common style among skiers nowadays. This type of skiing requires a stiff boot that clicks in to a tension-release binding in case of a crash. Alpine skiing can either be alpine touring or alpine racing. The former is similar to a regular alpine, but the bindings and boots enable the skier to ascend with heels free, while the latter is for skiers who can’t get enough speed.
Freestyle This type of ski is preferred by those who love landing big jumps and sliding rails. Compared with Alpine Ski, freestyle or trick skis are softer and shorter. These skis are designed to perform well on mountain surfaces and, at the same time, during hard-packed jumps.
Telemark Together with cross Country Skis, telemark skis are technically considered as Nordic skiing because it also has a trait called free-heel binding. Such trait refers to the bindings that don’t allow the heel to lock down. The ski boots are only attached to the toe, which enable the skier to travel uphill with ease. Telemark skis used in

are also softer than alpine skis, but its technique is more difficult to master.
Cross country Designed for travel across flat or gently rolling terrain, cross country skis are similar to telemark skis when it comes to free-heel binding. Skiers must use either wax or a feathered base to prevent sliding backward while skiing. Cross country skis used in

are very light and thin, and may not perform well when used downhill.
Specialty This type of skis used in jumping and racing are very rare. Specialty skis are very long and stiff and cannot be used when making turns. An example of specialty skis is ski boards or snow blades that closely resemble skates. You can find instructors for using specialty skis at some
